At the Homestake Gold Mine in Lead, South Dakota (pronounced "leed", not "led"). This was the largest gold mine in the Black Hills, which was finally closed in 2002. The mine extends up to 8000 feet underground, in addition to the open pit mine in some of these pictures. (8/19/2004)
