Taken at Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, this is at the site of Excelsior Geyser and the Grand Prismatic Spring. Shown is Excelsior Geyser, which had frequent, massive eruptions of 50 to 300 feet in the 1880s, but has been dormant since, except for 47 straight hours of eruptions on September 14, 1985. Although its eruptions are highly erratic, its water output isn't, as it consistently pumps out 4000 gallons of boiling water per *minute* into nearby Firehole River (08/22/2004)
