CA_LassenVNP-BumpassHell - 23

In Northern California, at Lassen Volcanic National Park. Before Mt. St. Helens erupted (in 1980), Lassen was the last major volcanic eruption in the continental U.S. (in 1916). This is at the "Bumpass Hell" section of the park, which was named after Kendall Vonbook Bumpass, who discovered it in the 1860's. Bumpass lost a leg when he stepped into a boiling thermal pool.
