Taken in Redwood National Park, at the northern part of California's Pacific coast. This picture shows a typical cluster of redwoods, with a group of live trees encircling a dead one. When a redwood dies (from fire or whatever), it drops seeds that grow into new trees that often tap into and use the root structure of the old tree. (10/02/2004)
